On Monday morning, January 27, 1997, I met with by the Amtrak ticket counter in Chicago. Vince is a network instructor at the Amtrak Car Shop facility in Chicago. Vince is the editor and a contributor to the Technical Training Newsletter. Prior to this meeting in person, my only communication with Vince was through e-mail. I started exchanging e-mail with Vince when I ran across his internet web page for In this photo we see Vince demonstrating a test bench that was built to train and examine the welding skills of Amtrak car shop workers. But, more about that later. Vince McGraw arranged for my tour of the Car Shop facilities and deserves our thanks for making it possible for me to share with you these unique perspectives and photos of the Amtrak Yard and Shops in Chicago, Illinois!
The photos in this slide show were taken in the mid-1990's by Steve Grande on his Amtrak travels throughout the nation. The size of the photos is purposely smaller as disk space was expensive and download speeds were slower at that time.
