CGI Programming at TrainWeb.org
www.trainweb.com/tech/cgi.html

Information related to creating, uploading and running CGI programs in TrainWeb.org web accounts will be provided on this web page.

To run CGI programs in your web account at TrainWeb.org, they must be in the cgi-bin folder under public_html, or in a subfolder under the cgi-bin folder. If you do not already have a cgi-bin folder under public_html, you must click here to request that a cgi-bin folder be created in your web account. If you create a cgi-bin folder in your account yourself, your programs will not operate properly.

After you have uploaded your CGI programs, do not forget to set the protection on them so that the world can READ and EXECUTE them. If you forget this step, visitors will get an error message when they attempt to execute your CGI routines. If you read or write any files in your CGI program, be sure to set the proper protection on both the files and the directories in which the files are contained.

Useful Information:

  • SSI (Server Side Includes) can be used, but are not initially enabled
Click here to request to turn them on.
  • The path to perl is /usr/bin/perl
  • The path to sendmail is /usr/sbin/sendmail
