"FULLERTON RAILROAD DAYS"

A community awareness event, cosponsored by the FRPA and the City of Fullerton to promote rail safety, rail travel and the historical connection of Fullerton to the Santa Fe Railroad, is set for May 1 and 2, 1999 at the Fullerton Transportation Center. The theme for this event is "Railroads In Our Daily Lives". Plans include displays from local historical groups, youth groups, museums, public service agencies and service organizations plus sales and display booths from local businesses.

OBJECTIVE

The primary objective of this event is to employ children's normal interest in trains to help connect them to the fundamental resources that they will need to lead fulfilling and productive lives. We will accomplish this goal, with the sponsorship of the railroads and other community organizations, by structuring and focusing the event activities toward the youth of the community. We have contacted the local elementary schools and plan to have them participate in a Railroad Safety Poster contest that will include participation awards and prizes for the best entries. We will encourage Scouts, Boys & Girls Clubs, YMCA and other youth groups to sponsor display booths promoting their organizations as well as participate in the planned educational and entertainment programs during the event.

RAILROAD THEME

A new railroad siding will allow the railroads to safely display selected equipment and present their latest transportation advances as well as promoting safety programs and career opportunities to our young people, potential rail travelers and the community at large. In addition, we believe this event will provide community educational benefits through the "Operation Lifesaver" program by increasing public awareness of the inherent dangers surrounding the increase of all high speed rail traffic within the metropolitan areas.

COMMUNITY BENEFIT

To increase the community awareness of the potential business and cultural opportunities that exist near the transportation center, an architectural rendering of the proposed Fullerton Railway Plaza including the Railroad Heritage Museum will be on public display to promote the creation of this large family oriented Interactive Railroad Attraction adjacent to the Fullerton train station.
