Sacramento, California - Rail Station (SAC)
www.trainweb.com/fotosort/stations/sac

Railroad bridge over the Sacramento River.

The above railroad bridge is used by the Amtrak Coast Starlight, the Amtrak California Zephyr, and the Amtrak Capitols. All northbound and southbound railroad traffic between Davis and Sacramento, California goes over this bridge.

In one of the photos you will see the top of the mast of a sunken sailboat. I don't know the truth of the story, but I will relay the story that I heard of the cause of the sinking of this boat. I heard that the bridge operator did not open the bridge all the way to let the sailboat through. The sailboat pilot signaled that the bridge was not open wide enough to safely sail through. The bridge operator refused to open the bridge any wider. From his experience, the bridge was open wide enough for sailboats to navigate through. When the sailboat attempted to go through, the lines got tangled in the bridge and the boat sunk. Both the sailboat owner and the city refuse to pay the cost of removing the boat from the river as they are holding each other responsible for the situation. The boat will probably remain sunken in the river until the case is settled in court. Please note that this is just a story that has been relayed to me. I have no idea if this is true or is totally off the mark. If anyone has further details about this sunken sailboat, you are welcome to e-mail them to me.
