Employment At TrainWeb
www.trainweb.com/employment/trainweb.html

TrainWeb has an opening for a full-time entry-level to mid-level Unix Systems Administrator. Previous Unix and CGI Perl experience is required, Commercial BSD Unix experience is preferred. Prior experience with Apache Web Server software would be a big plus.

TrainWeb is a small company where we all have to wear a lot of hats. As our computer person, the person hired for this position will be involved in all of TrainWeb's technical requirements!

You will be involved in setting up web accounts for our clients and providing both telephone and e-mail technical support to these clients.

You will be working on a number of major projects, including the following:

  • Setting up secure e-commerce for TrainWeb and our clients using our in-house secure web server.

  • Build and maintain a backup mirror web server for TrainWeb and install it into our northern California computer facility.

  • Build and maintain both secondary and tertiary Domain Name Servers (DNS) installing the secondary DNS into our Anaheim computer facility and the tertiary DNS into our northern California computer facility.

  • Build and maintain a backup mirror of our secure web server that was mentioned above and install it into our northern California computer facility.

  • Set up a temporary copy of the TrainWeb server and a LAN of notebook computers so that TrainWeb can display its pages at Railfair'99 in Sacramento without a dial-up into the Internet.

  • As the above projects are completed and you start to have more time available, you will work on adding other features for TrainWeb and its clients such as Guest Books, Tracking Statistics, Classified Ads, Message Boards, Chat, etc.

  • From time to time you will also have a chance to work on designing web pages and banners for both TrainWeb and our clients.

  • If your experience with CGI Perl and Java is minimal, you will probably end up learning a lot more about Perl and Java in the process of implementing a number of the above projects.

The above is far from a complete job description for this position. As mentioned, TrainWeb is a small company and each of us gets involved in whatever needs to be done. New projects will be continually coming up which should keep this job interesting and offer you the opportunity to learn many aspects of the web, the internet, and web server administration.

Depending on your level of education and prior level of experience, starting salary will range between $30K and $40K. A comprehensive set of benefits is provided. The selected candidate will work with us upstairs above the Amtrak Station in the Santa Fe Depot in Fullerton, California with occassional work being done at our other computer facilities in Anaheim and Mountain View, California. Hours will be 8:30 A.M. to 5:30 P.M., Monday through Friday, with an hour for lunch.

Since you will mostly be working right here at the Fullerton Santa Fe Depot, you will find this a very pleasant working environment if you have an interest in trains. That is not a job requirement, but it would be a plus! Though, I'm not sure how you would have found this page if you didn't have an interest in trains!

If interested, please click here to send your resume to jobs@trainweb.com via e-mail or you can fax your resume to 714-773-9399 or mail it to: TrainWeb, 124 East Santa Fe Avenue, Fullerton, CA 92832.

We need someone to fill this position immediately (actually, we've had a need for extra help here for months!), so do apply today!
