This page exists for archival reference. The Amtrak Historical Society has been inactive for more than 20 years. Unfortunately, it did not accomplish the below projects during its existence.
Two long-range projects that are in the infancy stages are the purchase of Amtrak equipment and the acquisition of property to begin a museum and permanent display. These are ambitious projects but are necessary to fullfill AHS's commitment to preserving Amtrak's history. We must act quickly on the equipment before it is all turned to scrap metal. However, a preliminary plan may be just to ask Amtrak to agree not to destroy it and to hold for us until we can finance its purchase, moving and storage.
We are also in the process of researching and compiling data to publish a detailed, comprehensive Amtrak equipment roster. Publication is scheduled for May 1, 2002. Everyone with interest or expertise in Amtrak locomotives, passenger cars, or freight equipment should contact the society.
