Anaheim Attempts To Stop
Yorba Linda Metrolink Station!
http://www.trainweb.com/2002/news/ylstation.html

The City of Anaheim is going to try to attempt to block the building of a Metrolink Station in Yorba Linda. The proposed new station would be located at the southwest corner of New River Road and Esperanza Road just east of Weir Canyon Road. A park-and-ride lot would also be built able to accomodate 194 vehicles on the northeast corner and a second lot with a capacity of 106 vehicles on the southeast corner. The station and lots were approved Jan. 16, 2002, by the Yorba Linda Planning Commission.

This attempt to block the building of the Metrolink station appears to be part of a "noise" feud between the Cities of Anaheim and Yorba Linda. Earlier this year, Anaheim wanted to build a sound wall along the south side of the tracks. Yorba Linda objected claiming that this would reflect the sound back into Yorba Linda neighborhoods. Anaheim is now claiming that the Metrolink Station will create more noise from the trains, and since there will be no sound wall, then Yorba Linda should not be allowed to proceed with a project that will create more noise from the tracks.

The Yorba Linda City Council will hold a public hearing on the proposal at 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2002, in the Yorba Linda City Hall Council Chambers, 4845 Casa Loma Avenue, Yorba Linda. The Council meeting itself starts at 6:30 p.m. Click here for a map to city hall and further information. If at all possible, show up at the meeting to show your support, especially if you are a resident of Yorba Linda or Anaheim.

If you can't come to the the meeting, then you can still show your support for the building of the Yorba Linda Metrolink Station, by clicking here. Once the page comes up, you can send e-mail to each of the members of the Yorba Linda City Council by clicking on their photos.

Also, please contact the Anaheim City Manager, The Mayor, and the other City Council Members, especially if you are a resident of Anaheim, and let them know how you feel about their efforts to block the building of the Yorba Linda Metrolink Station. Unfortunately, the City of Anaheim is not as internet savvy as Yorba Linda; their web page does not provide e-mail addresses for the City Council Members. However, you can click here to get their names and then call them at (714)765-5247 or write to them at Anaheim City Hall, 200 S. Anaheim Blvd., Anaheim, CA 92805.
