THE CHARM OF YESTERYEAR REVISITED IN A CIVILIZED WAY ONE BLOCK FROM DENVER'S UNION STATION DEPOT, MARKS A STEP BACK INTO TIME....1912"
Stand back on the sidewalk and look up at the white terra cotta frontage. Look to the left of the entrance, currently housing an art gallery. Here in 1917 stood a sign that read "ARGENTINE AND GRAY'S PEAK RAILWAY" leading into the ticket office. We enter through heavy oak doors with brass pulls and walk over terrazo tiles where we were preceded by many, many railroad men. Railroad men "stayed over" for about $1.00 per day. Also, there were families and honeymoon couples waiting for the morning train! If you listen closely, you may still hear their voices. A small art deco elevator takes you to your floor. The entire 5 floors of the hotel annex are now executive office suites, happily enthroned by attorneys, decorators and yours truly! On the second floor we alight to a quiet befitting a grand old lady. Here is a bridge, a time machine certainly, where one may walk from the original 1891 Oxford Hotel to the 1912 Annex.
Here you will also now find the offices and showroom of GRANDPA'S DEPOT. We have two rooms full of railroad memorabilia open to you for your browsing pleasure. We do not adhere religiously to set hours. Chances are that Linda will be in around 8:30 A.M. and Grandpa wanders in about 10:30 and stays until 2:00 or 3:00 P.M. We also occasionally take lunch! We will be available if we know you are coming.
